I have seen one on PlumbWorld and it’s not hard to see why they say this is a red hot seller.

To attack the tub (mine is made of old enameled cast iron), start with the vinegar spray to kill red and green molds and other germs, then rinse and move onto the baking soda soft scrub and get out your scrub brush. A knee pad will support you as you muscle through the job. For deeper stains, make an oxygen bleach paste with a little water and let sit for 30 minutes.

Please be aware that there are many companies advertising and offering re-enamelling in-situ. This is not genuine vitreous enamel – it is a type of paint. The more reputable companies carrying out this service will describe it as “bath re-surfacing”. It is a shorter-term solution, but cannot be as hard or durable as genuine vitreous enamel. These companies may also be able to carry out a cosmetic repair of chips.

Genuine Vitreous Enamel is a type of glass, which is fused at high temperatures to achieve its unique combination of hardness and durability, which is unmatched by other finishes.
Re-enamelling will involve shot blasting to remove the existing enamel, followed by specialist welding if there is any damage or heavy rusting, for example around the plug hole. It will then be coated with up to three layers of vitreous enamel. Each layer will be fused to the surface by heating in a furnace to a temperature above 750 degrees Centigrade. It is this genuine vitreous enamel finish which will give the durability and long life that your bath has given you until now.

A very dirty cast iron bath before restoration

Well not to worry. You can get it magically restored to it’s former glory.

M&CT Ltd are a company that I found on google that restore cast iron baths to something you will love to bathe in! The process is to ‘shot blast’ the bath to remove the old enamel and annealed to remove any impurities.  ‘After ground coat enamel has been fused on in the furnace, the bath is finished in white cover coat.’

Roll Top Double Slipper Cast Iron Bath

You can fit a cast iron bath into most bathrooms – the really challeneging bit is do you go for the normal bath tub or go for somethig with a bit nore style – such as the cast iron baths.

Here is a clip of a cast iron bath in a relativley small space. Once you are in the bath -then you can relax! That is the main thing isn’t it?
